過去一周香港流感個案已達到世衛組織進入流感季節的基線，在香港公共交通工具上咳嗽聲此起彼伏，不少人主動戴上口罩。隨著到大陸、台灣、日本及新加坡等地旅遊的港人陸續返港，可能會持續將流感病毒帶入境，意味下月有機會踏入流感高峰期。
目前兒童的感染率升幅較大，幼稚園或小學有機會出現爆發，幼童有機會將病毒帶返住所。
港大內科學系傳染病科主任及講座教授孔繁毅4日表示，日本踏入冬季後的氣溫較低，流感病毒活躍，近日有不少港人從日本返港後出現流感病徵。
香港中文大學呼吸系統科講座教授許樹昌說，衛生署數據顯示，香港兩周前的流感病毒檢測陽性百分比約為1.35%，高於對上一周的1.09%，幾周後陽性比率或進一步升至4.94%基線水平。
去年冬季很多人感染甲型H1或H3流感,主流病毒株一旦由甲型H1N1轉為H3N2，可能令爆發期接續出現，有機會出現兩種流感同時爆發的「雙高峰」，導致流感季節延長。
